FLOAT FAQ

General

Floating, like laughing, induces the release of endorphins, euphemistically known as the brain’s “happy chemicals”: neurotransmitters found in the pituitary gland, hypothalamus, and distributed throughout the nervous system. Secretion of endorphins leads to feelings of euphoria, modulation of appetite, release of sex hormones, and enhancement of the immune response.

With high endorphin levels, we feel less pain and fewer negative effects of stress. And just as hitting the gym regularly stimulates consistent release of endorphins, so does floating.

Regular float sessions train your “endorphin muscle” and rewire your brain to more regularly secrete endorphins, resulting in a more consistent state of happiness, relaxation, and sustained positive energy levels.

And it’s far easier than 90 minutes on the elliptical machine!

This depends on why you are floating. For chronic pain in your body, floating two times a week can make a significant difference.

For anxiety, stress or insomnia, floating once a week is recommended.

The relaxing effects of a float session typically last beyond that day. After floating, you will likely have the best sleep of your week!

Wet Floats

First, you take a shower in your float room to cleanse yourself of all oils and makeup.

From the shower, you step right into the float pool and lay back. Your body will be floating instantly.

Within 10 minutes, most people will lose all sense of space and time. The water temperature is set to your body’s skin temperature, so you won’t even feel the water! This is when the real magic begins. It’s like being back in the womb, mind relaxed and body free of any stress.

After your session ends, the lights come on and you step back into the shower to wash off the salt water.

  • Give yourself time beforehand to get into a relaxed headspace.
  • Try not to shave right before arriving, as salt can irritate freshly shaved skin.
  • If you wear contacts, remove them before getting into float tank.
  • Avoid caffeine beforehand.
  • If you are menstruating, please reschedule.

While we generally recommend at least a one hour long float, you can easily end your session early if needed.

You can control the lights from within the float pool. Additionally, you can always press the call button at your fingertips to speak with a member of our team with any questions.

Most people float without any clothing. Our subterranean float rooms are totally private!

Yes! In fact, the float tank is a wonderful haven for pregnant women with lower back pain, digestion issues or difficulty sleeping.

We do, however, recommend that pregnant women avoid floating during the first trimester.

Try to avoid! The water is filled with 1500lbs of epsom salt and It can sting your eyes a little.

If this does happen, no worry! We provide you with a hand towel and a bottle of fresh water and that you can spray on your face to remove the salt.

The following conditions are contraindicated for wet floatation:

  • Infectious skin or respiratory disorders
  • Open wounds or recent tattoos
  • Incontinence
  • Uncontrolled epilepsy
  • Serious mental conditions
  • High-risk pregnancy
  • Colored or permed your hair within 7 days
  • Under the influence of any drug or alcohol
  • Currently menstruating
  • Under 18 without parental presence

It is nearly impossible to drown in the tank. Since you are floating, you do not need to know how to swim. This water is buoyant and will support you regardless of your size or weight.

Floating is an experience like no other. So calming and therapeutic. In the midst of all this stress, I highly recommend the complete sensory deprivation of floating. Great for tense, achy muscles and joints. Wonderful for your weary mind. The spa is clean and safe and the staff is friendly and helpful!
